Appendix 4: Hertford Municipal Charities

This body was set up in 1839 to administer the Green Coat School, Hale’s School and the Butteris Charity. When the Newton Exhibition Foundation was set up in 1895, three of its governors were to be nominated by Hertford Municipal Charities. Now its only other remaining function is to nominate two members of the Governing Board of Richard Hale School. It appears that as a matter of convenience the Trustees of Hertford Municipal Charities and the Governors of the Newton Exhibition Foundation consist of the same members.
