Appendix 2: Benjamin Cherry's Legacies to Schools

These legacies give some information about schools in Hertford in 1817.

‘To the Treasurer or Treasurers for the time being of the Green Coat Charity School for boys in the said town of Hertford, the sum of £3OO sterling to be applied for the benefit of the said school’.

‘To the Green Coat Charity School for girls in the said town, the sum of £21 to be paid to the Treasurer, for the benefit of the said school’.

‘To the Treasurer or Treasurers for the time being of the school established in the said town of Hertford, for the education of boys upon Dr Bell’s plan the sum of £100 sterling to be applied for the benefit of the same school.

‘To the Treasurer or Treasurers for the time being of the school established at Bull Plain, in the said town of Hertford, for the education of girls upon Dr Bell’s plan, the like sum of £100 sterling, to be applied for the benefit of the same school’.
