I have always been intrigued by the two fine stained glass windows in Holy Trinity Church, Bengeo on the north wall of the nave. They were dedicated in 1893 to the daughters of Admiral Gosselin.
Why would an Admiral with a name of French origin be living in Bengeo?
Why did the parishioners commemorate the lives of Mary and Charlotte, his daughters,
“in gratitude for their love and example” ?
Encouraged by members of the Hertford and Ware Local History Society and by descendents of the Admiral, who live locally, I have found out the stories of:
“The Gosselins of Bengeo Hall.”
