St. Matthew's Day March
21st September
By Geoffrey Cordingley
On St Matthews Day the children of Christ’s Hospital attend a service in the City of London and then march through the streets to the Mansion House for lunch. This is an annual tradition which helps to retain the link between the school and the City of London where it originated.
Here are two photographs, again belonging to Veronica Humphries, showing the children marching in the mid-1970s.

It is definitely September 1978 as I am (back row next to the kerb) wearing a Monitress’ Badge so my upper sixth year. Golly, that brings back memories.
These pictures contain images of girls in my school year that mostly left in 1978 and girls in the year below. They were either taken in September 1977 or 1978. If the latter, the girls in the front of the top picture without badges were from my year group and had stayed on an extra term to do Oxbridge exams. I remember Mrs Humphries very well!
