John Lilley b. 1804

John Lilley, son of William & Sarah Lilley was christened on 1st April 1804.  He married Sarah Rimmer on 14th Feb 1830 in Ware, Herts. They had 11 children:

1841 Census they were living at Baldock St, Dickinsons Yard, Ware, Herts with 4 children, Eliza, Sarah, James & William.

1851 Census John Lilly is an inmate in Union workhouse, Bishops Stortford, Herts. Sarah Lilly is mentioned separately as they used to segregate the men and women. She is mentioned with a Charlotte Lilly aged 1 year. Eliza – In Union Workhouse aged 18 Sarah – In Union Workhouse aged 13 James – In Union Workhouse aged 12 – school William – In Union Workhouse aged 20 Susannah – In Union Workhouse aged 10 Mary – In Union Workhouse aged 7 Ann – In Union Workhouse aged 5 Caroline – May have been documented as Charlotte by mistake

1861 They were living at Rye St, Providence Row, Bishops Stortford with, Mary Ann, Ann, Caroline & Emily

1871 John & Sarah are listed together as inmates and labourers in Union Workhouse again

Sarah died AMJ 1876 in Bishops Stortford. Vol. 3a p.184

1881 John on his own in Workhouse

John died JFM 1884 in Bishops Stortford. Vol. 3a  p.228
