c1957 and in 2021 (HALS ref DE/X716)

In 1957, the Saracen’s Head (left) was awaiting demolition, along with Candies and the other shops at No 17 which once stood opposite the junction of New Road.  At the time, Candies was owned by C R Caster.

In 1945, Mrs D Childs ran it and back in the 30s, it was a clothes shop called ‘Pauline’s’.
