  • A lovely building with many rooms above which were there for the use by relief pub managers when they didn’t have a pub to cover. I worked there as a barman for a few years in the 1970’s. Just prior to that my father was the manager of Bates Bros also in Fore Street until it was taken over by the owners of Fine Fare who closed it down so it could not compete with their new store in Maidenhead Street
