John Rogers snippets on Ware in the 19th century

A local man who knew (everything about) everyone

By S Williams

John Rogers was a boot and shoe maker and repairer who had a shop in Baldock Street up to the Second World War.  He was a strict churchman and was involved in many ways in the life of the town.  In 1936 he was in his 80s and had a habit of writing notes about days gone by; some are pub tales and some are poems.  Unfortunately, he never dated his stories.  It appears he remembered what happened, but not when.
