Hertford Town Football Club's Past Triumphs

Anthony Powell

In the early part of the 1960s the Blues — Hertford Town Football Club, that is − reached two East Anglian cup finals, the first being in the 1960/61 season against Boston United. They lost this particular final. But in the 1962/3 season, also against Boston United, Hertford Town Football Club were the winners. Possibly both these games were played over two legs back then.

I remember around about, or just after perhaps, Wealdstone coming to us for possibly a Herts Senior Cup tie. I don’t think it was an East Anglian Cup tie, although it may have been − a long time ago now. Still, happy times at the football club back in the swinging 60s.

Another remarkable win − this time it was against Barnet, who had just gained promotion to the Football League. It was, as I remember, a Herts Senior Cup tie, with the Blues coming out on top that evening against Barry Fry’s side, which included the Stein brothers also.
