The cost of calling out the tender

On the 30th July 1919 there appeared in the Ware UDC minutes a report from the Captain of the Fire Brigade after they attended a fire at St Edmunds College.
The steamer was not required on arrival and a claim for expenses of £12.13s.0d were submitted.
Mr A Chapman reported on behalf of the Fire Brigade committee that they recommended the following increases in the retaining fees and scale of charges for the attendance at fires:
Chief Officer £1.1s 0d after 1st hour 10s 6d per hour
Second Officer 15s 0d after 1st hour 7s od per hour
Third Officer 10s 6d after 1st hour 5s 0d per hour
Forman fireman 7s 0d after 1st hour 3s 0d per hour
Engineer each 7s 0d after 1st hour 3s 0d per hour
Turncock 5s 0d after 1st hour 2s 6d per hour
Firemen each 5s 0d after 1st hour 2s 6d per hour
Messengers each 2s 0d after 1st hour 1s 0d
Horses each £1 10s 0d to run out and back per horse per mile 1s 2d
Steam Fire Engine £6 6s 0d after 1st hour 10s 0d per hour
Manual Fire Engine £3 10s 0d after 1st hour 5s 0d per hour
It was unanimously resolved the recommendation of the committee be adopted and the revised scale of charges advertised in the local press.
