Black Swan Pub - Ware

By Carole Sach

I wonder if anyone can help me. I am trying to find a picture of the Black Swan Pub as my Great Grandfather lived there and worked in the Black Swan Yard as a brick maker with his Father.  I believe that the pub was owned by a family member.  Has this pub now been knocked down? I would love to find out anything about this.  I hope someone can help me.

regards

  • Hi David thank you for your offer but that is too late Great Grand was born in 1872, he would have been working there in 1881. Thank you again

  • Ignore my previous comment. We had originally believed the Black Swan to have been in Hertford. We were recently led to believe that the pub was in Ware, not Hertford, but have now found that there WAS a pub in Hertford named The Black Swan and have now matched my grandfathers name to the list landlords of the Hertford location. Sorry for the mistake.

  • Hello David,
If you click on the tab ‘get involved’ at the top of the page, you could upload this photograph and we could add it to this article.

  • Hi Carole. Came across your comment by chance. My Great Grandfather was the Landlord of The Black Swan, and we have a photograph taken around 1910 with a group of about a dozen folks standing outside. (My great grandfather, great grandmother, great uncle and grandmother. Do contact me, and I will endeavour to get some sort of image across to you. If your Grandfather was working there around the same period, he may well be one of the men who posed for the picture!!!
