When Coats were Laid Down for Goalposts

Mr Anthony Powell

As a lad growing up in Hertford in the 1960s myself, and indeed mates, were at the time football crazy. Every time we got together back in those days we used to pick up two sides, sometimes eleven on each side or perhaps less. The thing is there were no five a side goals so we had to lay coats down as goal posts at each end of the pitch, we didn’t have any kits either. In this very basic way sometimes, but not always of course, a football club would be formed. A lot has changed since those days all those years ago. Although I still watch football today in the modern era.
